We here at the Louisiana First Standard mainly focus on Louisiana political and cultural news. However, I’ve decided to make a special exception today for my alma mater’s high school wrestling team: Jesuit High School (New Orleans).
For those who don’t know, I wrestled at Jesuit from 2013 to 2018 (8th -12th grade) and was a 2-time state champion in the D1 152 lb weight class. So, Louisiana high school wrestling holds a special place in my heart—as well as the Jesuit High School wrestling program.
This past weekend, Jesuit High school’s wrestling team won its second consecutive Division 1 State Championship as team. Jesuit cruised past its competition with a total team score of 321 points—over 45 points ahead of 2nd place team Holy Cross.
Jesuit also brought home 3 individual titles (120, 215, and 285 lb weight classes) and 5 individual runner-ups. In total, 8 of the Jesuit’s 14 wrestlers wrestled in the state finals for their respective weight class.
If you have a Twitter/X account, then make sure to check out these three tweets below because they show video clips of Jesuit’s 3 state champs in their state final matches:

Overall, 13 of Jesuit’s 14 wrestlers placed in the top 6 of their weight class. Quite an impressive and difficult feat to accomplish in Louisiana wrestling!
As a Jesuit wrestling alumnus, I want to personally congratulate Jesuit wrestling coach Jonathon Orillion and the entire Jesuit wrestling team for their successful season! Jesuit’s championship was well-deserved, and I hope that the team celebrates their incredible accomplishments!
