Geaux Vote: Election Day in Louisiana (April 27th, 2024)
A Reminder for Jefferson Parish's municipal election & Tax Renewal
Hello all,
I just wanted to remind everyone today about the upcoming election day in Jefferson Parish.
Jefferson Parish voters will have the opportunity to vote in a run-off election for one judicial position and a separate tax renewal.
Last month, three candidates for District Judge in Jefferson Parish ran against each other. No candidate reached the 50% threshold, so the top two vote-getters Jackie Maloney and Lindsey Valenti will face each other in this run-off election.
We here at the Louisiana First Standard are not making an endorsement in this election, but we do encourage voters to head to the voting booth for this runoff election.
This election will have extremely low-turnout—probably around 10% or so—since the first election’s turnout was only 16.7%. So, every vote will likely count in this specific election.
Moving on, we also have a property tax renewal on the ballot in Jefferson Parish. Voters have the opportunity to decide whether to renew a 10-year property tax dedicated to funding the Jefferson Parish public school system.
According to the Bureau of Government Research, this 6.8 mill property tax renewal will cost a homeowner with a $300k home roughly $150 annually in taxes.
If you plan on voting on Election Day, then the polls will be open from 7am to 8pm on Saturday, April 27th. The last day of Early voting is tomorrow—Saturday, April 21st.
So, please plan to take some time out of your weekend to vote in the upcoming municipal election next Saturday (April 27th).
Anyways, thank you all for reading, and may Christ Jesus bless the state of Louisiana! Only Louisiana First!
