In Case You Missed it: Governor Landry's press conferences this week
Quick Update on the Governor's Activities (Week of May 19. 2024)
Hello all,
For today’s post, I wanted to share some info with everyone about Governor Jeff Landry’s press conferences this week. Governor Landry hosted multiple press conferences on important topics in Louisiana politics—notably crime and education.
So, let’s take a brief look at 3 of Governor Landry’s press conferences from this week:
#1 Monday’s “Troop NOLA update” press conference
In recent years, lawless ATV drivers have gone around New Orleans wreaking havoc. With a heavily understaffed police department, the New Orleans Police Department has done little to stop illegal “street takeovers” by ATV drivers in the city.
Here is an example of some of the dangerous ATV drivers last year on I-10 in New Orleans:
No wonder Louisiana has some of the highest car insurance rates in the country.
Fortunately, the Louisiana State Police recently arrested 3 individuals associated with an ATV “street takeover” in New Orleans from a few months prior. The new State Police troop in New Orleans—dubbed “Troop NOLA”—investigated these crimes.
In this press conference, Governor Landry explained the State Police’s recent work in ending ATV “street takeovers”. Law and order is back on the menu in New Orleans.

#2 Wednesday’s “Let Teacher’s Teach” press conference
Last year, LA Governor Jeff Landry promised to reform education in Louisiana. For decades, Louisiana’s K-12 public education system has ranked at the bottom of the country.
Fortunately, we’ve seen some recent gains in LA education under the leadership of BESE Superintendent Dr. Cade Brumley and the Louisiana Department of Education. However, Louisiana’s education system still needs some major improvements.
On Wednesday’s press conference, Governor Landry announced a new set of educational reform recommendations from the Louisiana Department of Education (LADOE). This package of policy recommendations is called “Let Teacher’s Teach”.
In this press conference, Dr. Cade Brumley discussed some of the major policy objectives in these recommendations— including student behavior, curriculum, and professional trainings.
The “Let Teacher’s Teach” report is available online, so you can check out this report at the link here.

#3 Thursday’s Jeff Landry MSY Airport press conference
For Governor’s Landry 3rd press conference, he visited the Louisiana Armstrong International airport (MSY) in New Orleans. Landry shared the stage with New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell to discuss the LA Wallet app.
Going forward, Louisiana residents will be able to use their digital driver’s license in the LA Wallet App in order to get through TSA at MSY. This airport will become the 1st one in Louisiana that will utilize this technology.
Currently, twenty-six other airports across the country will accept a digital driver’s license from the LA Wallet app.
