Hello all,
We are just three months away from the Municipal primary elections in New Orleans (October 11th, 2025). Thus, election season is just around the corner.
Last week, I published an article here on the Louisiana First Standard about the New Orleans Mayoral election—which I highly recommend that you check out.
Due to a positive feedback from that article, I have decided to publish more content on this substack about the upcoming elections in New Orleans.
For today’s post, I just wanted to share the FULL FIELD of the New Orleans Mayoral election, Sheriff election, and the City Council elections.
Overall, there was one major surprise in the Sheriff’s race that I want to quickly point out.
Current New Orleans Sheriff Susan Hutson decided to run for reelection by qualifying on the final day of the qualifying period.
Just two months ago, Sheriff Hutson announced that she would suspend her reelection campaign following the infamous jailbreak from the Orleans Parish jail two months ago.
Sheriff Hutson faces a tough road to reelection, and we shall see soon if the voters of New Orleans will reject Huston’s controversial tenure as the city’s sheriff.
Without further ado, here are all of the candidates for the major municipal elections in New Orleans for the October 2025 primary:
New Orleans Sheriff election

New Orleans Council - At-Large District 1 election
New Orleans Council - At-Large District 2 election
New Orleans Council - District A election
New Orleans Council - District B election
*Incumbent Councilwoman Lesli Harris is running unopposed, so she has automatically won reelection to the New Orleans Council District B seat
New Orleans Council - District C election
New Orleans Council - District D election
New Orleans Council - District E election
