The Louisiana First Standard's Voter Recommendation list (December 2024)
4 State Constitutional Amendments,
Hello all,
Today is last day of early voting for the December 7th election. So, I wanted to put out a quick voter recommendation list for next week’s runoff elections & statewide constitutional amendments.
Without further ado, here is the Louisiana First Standard’s Voter Recommendation list for the upcoming December 7th election:
-East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor President: “Coach” Sid Edwards
This endorsement is an easy one. Sid Edwards is the “Louisiana First” candidate for East Baton Rouge’s Mayor-President runoff election. He is facing the incompetent incumbent Sharon Weston-Broome in this contest. East Baton Rouge parish needs a revival, and only “Coach” Sid Edwards can do it.
-4 Constitutional amendments: YES to #1-3 & NO to #4
All Louisiana voters have the opportunity to vote on 4 amendments to the Louisiana state constitution.
Here is the language for all 4 proposed amendments on the ballot:
Put simply, Amendment 1 will allow for more oversight over rogue judges by the LA State Supreme Court. Amendments 2 & 3 will give legislators more time to review and pass appropriations (i.e. spending) bills. Amendment 4 changes the way that the Louisiana government sells properties that are delinquent on property taxes.
The Louisiana First Standard supports voting YES on Amendments 1-3 and NO on Amendment 4. I personally think that Amendment 4 will make it tougher for local governments to enforce property owners of abandoned properties to pay their property taxes (look at New Orleans for example). So, that reasoning is why I don’t support Amendment 4.
Writer Mike Lunsford from The Hayride has a similar take on the 4 statewide constitutional amendments. So, feel free to check out his article here if you’re interested.
Jefferson Parish property tax increase: Vote NO
Earlier this year, the Jefferson Parish School Board authorized a NEW PROPERTY TAX to give pay raises for Jefferson Parish teachers—despite the state legislature recently giving a permanent pay raise for Louisiana teachers.
Jefferson Parish voters have the opportunity to either approve or reject this new property tax on the December 7th ballot.
According WWL, the potential property tax would raise one’s property tax bill by hundreds of dollars. For a $400k property, a property owner will pay another ~$350 per year in property taxes. For a $250k property, property owner will pay another ~$190 per year in property taxes.
Louisiana residents already pay more taxes than almost anywhere else in the country. On top of that fact, the Jefferson Parish public school system provides free education to many children of illegal aliens. This gravy train needs to end NOW. The hardworking property-owners of Jefferson Parish should not give more handouts to illegal aliens in Louisiana
We here at the Louisiana First Standard recommend a NO vote on this property tax hike.
Aside:
If you live in Jefferson Parish, then I just wanted to share where the 2 voting locations on the Eastbank are for early voting—Harahan and Kenner. But if you vote on election day, then you will go to your normal voting poll location.
Thank you all for reading, and may Christ Jesus bless the state of Louisiana! Only Louisiana First!
