The Most Important Runoff election in Louisiana: East Baton Rouge's Mayor President election
The upcoming December 7th runoff election for EBR Mayor-President
Hello all,
I hope everyone’s weekend is off to a good start.
As the second largest city in Louisiana, what happens in Baton Rouge affects the rest of Louisiana. East Baton Rouge parish is home to Louisiana’s flagship university (LSU), the Louisiana state legislature, and nearly half a million residents.
In the early 2000s, Baton Rouge was poised to become one of the next “boomtown” cities in America. Unfortunately, the once Republican-leaning parish is now falling victim to the incompetence of big-city Democratic politicians.
Fortunately, East Baton Rouge parish has the chance to bring the parish back to its former glory. That change can happen on December 7th by electing Sid Edwards.
For today’s post, I wanted to inform everyone of a highly important runoff election in Louisiana next month. On December 7th, voters in East Baton Rouge parish will elect their NEXT Mayor-President.
In this electoral matchup, voters will have the opportunity to either reelect incumbent Democrat Sharon Weston-Broome or the political outsider/Republican candidate “Coach” Sid Edwards as the Mayor-President of East Baton Rouge.
Earlier this month, the initial East Baton Rouge Mayor-President election was razon-thin. As shown below, no candidate finished above 50%. Consequently, the top two vote-getters are now heading to the December 7th run-off election—Republican candidate Sid Edwards (34%) and Democratic candidate Sharon Weston-Broome (31%).
If you followed the East Baton Rouge Mayor election, then you probably know that there was plenty of mud-slinging and backroom deals in this election.
In particular, the two primary Democratic candidates (Sharon Weston-Broome & Ted James) relentlessly attacked each other throughout the campaign. Now that Ted James lost & didn’t make the runoff, he decided ENDORSE Sharon Weston-Broome after their back-and-forth barbs with each other.
Writer Scott McKay from The Hayride wrote an excellent article about Ted James’s shameless endorsement of Sharon Weston-Broome for EBR Mayor-President. So, makes sure to check out that article:
Last week, there was also a televised debate between Sharon Weston-Broome and Sid Edwards. Scott McKay also wrote a recap of this hour-long debate on WAFB-TV. So, I included an insightful except below from his article:
“Broome celebrated the JBE endorsement by going to a debate televised by WAFB-TV Tuesday night and utterly failing to articulate any reason why anyone should give her four more years.
She acknowledged the city’s crime rate is through the sky, but it’s OK, she said, because she bought the Baton Rouge Police Department a new fleet of cars. Sid Edwards, her Republican opponent, hilariously popped her by noting he’d recently interacted with a BRPD officer whose patrol car was covered with duct tape.
Edwards talked about an old project that Baton Rouge’s leaders have neglected for years to expand Airline Highway and US 190 from the old Huey Long Bridge all the way to I-12; Broome then bragged about the MovEBR project and its billion dollars spent on traffic improvements – but acknowledged traffic is as bad as ever.
She said the biggest challenge Baton Rouge has is telling its story. People just don’t know how awesome the place is!
Then moderator Greg Meriwether brought up Broome’s hilariously terrible “Summer of Hope” program, which was aimed at getting a handle on crime, and got her to admit she wasted hundreds of thousands of dollars on it.”
The whole debate is on YouTube as well. So, feel free to watch that video if you’re interested.
By now, everyone should know that “Louisiana First” patriots need to support Sid Edwards for East Baton Rouge’s runoff election for Mayor-president. I hope everyone enjoyed this status update for this all-important runoff election on December 7th, and let’s hope that the “Louisiana First” movement prevails in Baton Rouge.
Anyways, thank you all for reading, and may Christ Jesus bless the state of Louisiana! Only Louisiana First!
