MAJOR UPDATE: 5 out of 10 escaped inmates captured after Orleans Prison jailbreak
Interesting Developments unfolding for the New Orleans
Hello all,
I’ve taken some much needed time off from work over the past two days, so I’ve been taking a little bit of a break from writing.
However, I wanted to provide some brief updates today concerning the big jailbreak from the Orleans Parish jail last week.
Last weekend, only three of the ten inmates who escaped the New Orleans jail were caught. But over the past several days, two more inmates were caught—leaving only 5 out of the 10 escapees from the jail on the loose.
Law enforcement captured the 4th escaped inmate on Monday (May 19th) in the New Orleans East area. Then, the 5th escaped inmate was arrested on Tuesday evening (May 20th) in New Orleans. No more arrests have been made over the past 4 days.
The Louisiana State Police have transferred all of the 5 captured escapees to the Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola.
Here are images from the Louisiana State Police’s social media accounts showing the arrest of the 4th and 5th escapees from the New Orleans jail:
The reward for providing information to law enforcement that leads to the capture of an escapee is now a cumulative total of $20k.
Besides recapturing the escaped inmates, local and state law enforcement have cracked down on individuals who allegedly helped some of the inmates escape.
On Tuesday (May 20th), law enforcement arrested a maintenance worker named Sterling Williams for allegedly helping 10 inmates escape from the jail. According to WWL, Williams “now faces ten felony counts of Principal to Simple Escape and one count of Malfeasance in Office”. Williams is the first non-inmate arrested in connection to the May 16th jailbreak from the Orleans Parish prison.
On Wednesday (May 21st), the Louisiana State Police also arrested two women from the Greater New Orleans for helping escapees from the Orleans Parish jail.
Here is information from the Louisiana State Police’s press release regarding the arrest of these two accomplices:
“… The initial investigation revealed that before the escape Cortnie Harris was in contact via phone with an escapee who remains at large. Furthermore, investigators determined that Harris transported two escapees, who remain at large, to multiple locations in New Orleans. Investigators also determined that Corvanntay Baptiste was in contact via phone and social media with escapee Corey Boyd (captured) and helped facilitate getting him food while he was hiding in a residence.
As a result of the investigation, Harris and Baptiste were placed under arrest and charged with one felony count each of LRS 14:25 - Accessories after the fact. They were transported to and booked into the Plaquemines Parish Detention Center. According to Louisiana law, those convicted of accessory after the fact shall be fined not more than five hundred dollars, or imprisoned, with or without hard labor, for not more than five years, or both.”
We here at the Louisiana First Standard will continue to monitor the situation and will inform our readers of any new information about the recent jailbreak from the Orleans Parish prison. Let’s hope and pray that justice is served in the end for the remaining five escaped inmates.
Thank you all for reading, and may Christ Jesus bless the state of Louisiana! Only Louisiana First!
